When is the Season 2 Premiere of  ‘Peacemaker’?

The new season of Peacemaker premieres Thursday, Aug. 21 on HBO Max. New episodes will premiere every Thursday through the season 2 finale on Thursday, Oct. 9.

Who is in the Cast of ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2?

John Cena returns for the second season as the title character Peacemaker, government name Chris Smith. His character was first introduced in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, where his fanatical brand of patriotism was pushed to its breaking point when he killed squad leader Rick Flagg Jr. (Joel Kinnaman). The first season of Peacemaker served as something of a redemption story for his character, as he learned to play nice with others after joining the mysterious black ops squad “Project Butterfly” under the arm of the A.R.G.U.S. organization.

Other members of Project Butterfly who are returning for the new season include Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), daughter of A.R.G.U.S. head Amanda Waller (Viola Davis); Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), the liaison for A.R.G.U.S. who develops a begrudging respect for Peacemaker; John Economos (Steve Agee), who provides tactical support for the team; and Vigilante, aka Adrian Chase (Freddie Stroma), a try-hard hero who idolizes Peacemaker and his no-holds-barred brand of justice. Legendary character actor Robert Patrick is also set to return to Peacemaker season 2 as Chris’ demented and abusive father, who moonlights as the supervillain White Dragon. 

If you watched season 1, you know his character’s fate, so his return is undoubtedly connected to the storyline of the show’s second season. Here’s the logline, per HBO Max: “Peacemaker discovers an alternate world where life is everything he wishes it could be. But this discovery also forces him to face his traumatic past and take the future into his own hands.” Other actors who are joining the cast in season 2 include Frank Grillo as Rick Flagg Sr. (who also appeared in both Superman and Creature Commandos, the first two entries in the new DCU); Sol Rodriguez as Sasha Bordeaux, a character closely associated with Batman in the comics; comedian and SNL alum Tim Meadows as Langston Fleury, an A.R.G.U.S. agent created specifically for the series; and David Denman in a mystery role (Denman told the Hollywood Reporter it will be a “really fun reveal for fans when you do see who [he’s] playing”).

Is James Gunn Still Involved in ‘Peacemaker’?

Yes! Like the first season (and Creature Commandos AND Superman), Gunn is the sole writer of all eight episodes of Peacemaker season 2. Gunn is also directing multiple episodes of the second season, including the premiere. Greg Mottola, director of the classic comedy Superbad, is also on board to direct at least one episode of the second season.
