At DISH, we’re always looking for ways to make your evening wind-down or big-game Sunday even better. We’re excited to share that our latest software update is rolling out now to our Hopper family of devices!

Whether you’re a sports superfan, a movie buff, or just looking for a simpler way to find your favorite shows, there’s something in this update for you. Here’s a look at what’s changing. Not a DISH subscriber? Follow this link to find the best offer and subscribe to DISH today!

More Control, Less Hassle with Picture-in-Picture

We know you love watching two things at once, especially during busy sports seasons. We’ve made our Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature much easier to use with just your remote:

  • Quick Menu: Just press the Up arrow while watching live TV to bring up the PiP menu.

  • The Ol' Switcheroo: Using Side-by-Side mode? Use the Left/Right arrows to instantly swap which show you’re listening to.

  • Your Favorite Spot: Want the small screen in a different corner? Use the Down arrow to move it exactly where you want it.

Never Say Goodbye to Your Favorites

For our Hopper 3 and Hopper with Sling users, we have a massive storage upgrade. You can now connect an external hard drive up to 12TB. To put that in perspective, that’s enough room to keep thousands of hours of movies and shows. You’ll never have to worry about deleting an old favorite to make room for a new one again!

More Inclusive Searching

We want everyone to find what they're looking for faster. We’ve updated our search so that Spanish titles are now included by default for everyone. No more digging through settings—just type and find!

A Fresh New Look

You might notice some small but "shiny" changes! We’ve updated the Loading Beacon (that little animation you see when things are booting up) and the DVR Buffer Bar to look crisper and cleaner on your high-definition TV.

A Little Help from Your Remote

Ever had a button get stuck on your remote? It happens to the best of us! Your TV will now give you a friendly "Stuck Button" pop-up (Error 1334) if it senses a button is snagged, so you can fix it quickly and get back to your show.

A Quick Note on Netflix: To make sure we’re providing the best possible experience on our newest equipment, we are retiring the Netflix app on some of our older boxes (including the Hopper with Sling and older Joey models). If you’re a big Netflix fan and use one of these devices, we’d love to chat about getting you an equipment upgrade so you can keep streaming seamlessly!

When will I see these changes?

After rolling out in phases, this update will be completed in May 2026. Most devices—including the Hopper 3, Wally, and Hopper Duo—will receive the update automatically overnight.
