Week 9 marks the halfway point of the 2025 NFL season, and if there’s one word that describes the season so far, it would be “unpredictable.” With no undefeated teams, and only two with one loss (including the Green Bay Packers, who also have a tie), basically every team has lost a game they “should” have won, or vice versa. With so much uncertainty, sports books and Power Rankers are deferring to past performance and expectations. Thus, the 3-5 Baltimore Ravens are the betting favorites to win the AFC North and the Kansas City Chiefs are favored to win the Super Bowl despite sitting in third place in their division.

As NFL fans, all we can do is strap in and enjoy the ride. That’s particularly true on Sunday, Nov. 2, when NFL RedZone will be in free preview beginning at 1pm ET for the Week 9 afternoon games. Here are full details on how to watch NFL RedZone with DISH during the Week 9 free preview, and how to keep watching for the rest of the season.

Minnesota Vikings at Detroit Lions - 1pm ET

These NFC North rivals played a pair of memorable games last season, including a Week 18 clash that decided the top seed in the NFC. Minnesota’s loss in that game started a tailspin that’s continued into this season. To be fair, the Vikings have had injuries to both of their quarterbacks, and J.J. McCarthy is expected to return to the lineup this weekend after missing the past five games with a high ankle sprain. The Vikings are hoping the six weeks of rest (and study) will help the second-year signal caller make a leap, as their once-devastating pass game has struggled to lift off this season. They’ll have their hands full against a rested Lions team coming off its bye week.

Player to Watch: Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs - Detroit has always used a platoon running attack with Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, but it’s looking increasingly like Gibbs is the team’s workhorse. In their most recent game against the Buccaneers, he had a season high in rushing yards (136) and receiving yards (82), and he’s had more carries than Montgomery in five of Detroit’s seven games. For frustrated fantasy owners, we may be getting some clarity on the team’s true No. 1 RB.

Atlanta Falcons at New England Patriots - 1pm ET

No team embodies the unpredictability of the 2025 NFL season better than the Atlanta Falcons. They were shut out against the Carolina Panthers and hammered at home by a 1-6 Dolphins team, while also beating the pants off a solid Buffalo Bills squad. Getting QB Michael Penix and top WR Drake London back from injury should help, but Atlanta faces a tough test this weekend when they head to Foxborough to take on a Patriots team that has won five straight after a 1-2 start. Sophomore QB Drake Maye has a lot to do with the win streak, as the former North Carolina star has completed 75 percent of his passes on the season to go with 15 TDs and just three picks. Under new head coach (and Patriots icon) Mike Vrabel, New England appears to have found its franchise QB and rediscovered the winning ways they enjoyed for nearly two decades with Tom Brady at the helm.

Player to Watch: Falcons RB Bijan Robinson - When Bijan Robinson gets rolling, he’s one of the NFL’s most electrifying players. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been much of a show the past couple of weekends, as Robinson only had nine carries for 25 yards in Atlanta’s embarrassing loss to Miami. That figures to change in New England this weekend, and when Bijan starts hitting big plays in both the run and pass game, Atlanta can be tough to stop.

Kansas City Chiefs at Buffalo Bills - 2:25pm ET

Whenever these two AFC powerhouses face off, it’s always a must-watch. After dropping back-to-back games against New England and Atlanta, the Buffalo Bills regained their form and hammered the Panthers 40-9 last weekend. Unfortunately, they also lost DT Ed Oliver to a torn bicep, to go with four other injured starters on that side of the ball. That means Buffalo will need to outscore their opponents behind an offense that’s been a little up-and-down over the course of the season. The same could be said for the Chiefs, but since WR Rashee Rice’s return after Week 6, there have been a lot more highs than lows. In their past two games against the Commanders and Raiders, KC has outscored their opponents 59-7. That’s a big part of why the 5-3 Chiefs are sitting at the top of a lot of Week 9 power rankings, but their performance on the road Sunday should give us a better picture of their ceiling…and Buffalo’s.

Player to Watch: Bills RB James Cook - We all know that reigning MVP Josh Allen is going to ball out (fun fact: Allen is 4-1 against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in the regular season). But if you’ve been watching the Bills, you know that the performance of RB James Cook is a much better indicator of the team’s success. In four of Buffalo’s five wins, Cook has rushed for over 100 yards, including an eye-popping 216 in their blowout against the Panthers. In the Bills’ two losses, he’s been held under 90 rushing yards. Cook is the not-so-secret ingredient in Buffalo’s sauce; they’ll need to feed him early and often against the Chiefs.
