What is ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ About and Who is in the Cast?

The new series centers on the parents of Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and Claire Randall (Caitríona Balfe). That means there’s twice as much romance in the new series – and double the luscious historical backdrops. One half of the story follows the love story between Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) and their unlikely courtship in 18th century Scotland. The other half of the story looks at Claire’s parents, Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) and Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) as they find love amid the battle-scarred backdrop of World War I-era Europe. Producers deserve a lot of credit in finding actors who bear a strong resemblance to Jamie and Claire, particularly Roy as Jamie’s father.

Like the original series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood is packed with well-written supporting characters who round out the cast, some of which are the younger versions of the characters that fans are already familiar with. These include Rory Alexander as a young Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser (originally played by Duncan LaCroix); Sam Retford as Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish in the original series); Séamus McLean Ross as Colum MacKenzie (first played by Gary Lewis); and Conor MacNeill as Ned Gowan (Bill Paterson in Outlander).

Rounding out the cast is Tony Curran as Lord Lovat, Brian’s father and Jamie’s grandfather; Sara Vickers as Davina Porter, a housekeep for the Lovats and Brian’s mother; Peter Mullan as Red Jacob MacKenzie; Ailsa Davidson as Janet MacKenzie; Sadhgh Malin as Jocasta MacKenzie; Jhon Lumsden as Malcolm Grant; and, in his final television appearance before his death in April 2024, Brian McCardie as Isaac Grant.
