Super Bowl LVIII: Your Complete Guide to Chiefs-49ers

Super Bowl LVIII

The San Francisco 49ers will play the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII, which is slated for Sunday, Feb. 11 at 6:30pm ET on CBS. This is the second time in four years these teams will play each other for the championship. But although the jerseys will look the same, a lot has changed for both teams (and the rest of the world) since their last championship showdown in February 2020.

For the Niners, the most obvious change is at the top of their roster. The season of their most recent Super Bowl run, quarterback Brock Purdy was a junior QB for the Iowa State Cyclones, while star running back Christian McCaffrey was dealing with a series of injuries that kept him in-and-out of the Panthers backfield. Today, they’re probably the two biggest reasons San Francisco is back in the Super Bowl.

As for the Chiefs, the explosive offense that anchored their Super Bowl run in 2020 has been somewhat diminished since the departure of wide receiver Tyreek Hill two years ago. In its place, Kansas City has built one of the NFL’s best defenses, a unit that held the Baltimore Ravens and presumptive MVP Lamar Jackson to just 10 points in the AFC Championship game, including a shutout in the second half.

Beyond the matchup, here’s everything else you need to know about watching Super Bowl LVIII with DISH.
