HBO Max will soon get a makeover and a shorter name – henceforth to be known simply as “Max”. Change can be hard but not to worry! DISH customers will still have access to all the HBO content they know and love – and then some.
Here are answers to all your burning questions about Max:
How will this affect me as a DISH customer?
In May, the HBO Max app will become Max, bringing you worlds of new content to explore at a great value. DISH customers with a HBO Max subscription, will automatically have a Max subscription at launch so they will still have all the same great HBO channels and On Demand favorites on the set top box in addition to access to the Max app featuring an expanded catalogue with new favorites in genres like true crime, documentaries, food, home, lifestyle, and more at no additional cost.
How much does Max cost?
Current DISH customers will continue to pay $15.99/ per month. There is no increase in price.
When will it launch?
Max will launch on May 23.
Is there any action required on my part?
There will be no change to HBO channels on the set top box and On Demand. They will remain HBO.
If you have the HBO Max app downloaded to a supported device, one of two things will happen: 1) HBO Max will automatically update to Max, or 2) the net time you open the app you will be prompted to download Max. Either way, HBO Max will become Max. Users will authenticate Max with their same DISH login – their profiles and watch histories will all be migrated to the app once they log in.
Why is this happening?
This move has long been in the works following WarnerMedia’s merger with Discovery last year. The company identified a need to consolidate and streamline their ever-growing catalog of content.
With new tagline “The one to watch”, Max will expand its breadth of content with iconic series, award-winning movies, fresh originals, family favorites and the best entertainment for every mood.
What new shows will be on Max?
The company has announced exciting new programming coming in the near future.
This includes a spinoff of fan-favorite The Big Bang Theory, a new live-action adaptation of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and a prequel to Game of Thrones called A Knight of Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight that takes place a century before GOT.
Max will also feature a new Gremlins 10-episode series called Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, premieres May 23
A new season of True Detective starring Jodie Foster, coming this year
A 6-part doc series about podcast sensation Smartless, premieres May 23

All this to say, DISH customers can expect lots of great new programming coming to Max.
And with the company’s commitment to a seamless transition for current users, the dawn of Max should hopefully be a welcomed new chapter for DISH customers.
