DISH brings TV capabilities to the Josh.ai voice control platform for the first time

Voice control continues to grow in popularity, which is why DISH is dedicated to bringing its customers new and exciting opportunities to incorporate this feature into their homes. Adding to its existing portfolio of integrations with consumer-friendly voice control platforms, like the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, DISH is now integrated with Josh.ai, a leader in voice control solutions for the custom integration market.

What is Josh.ai?

Josh.ai is a powerful voice-controlled home automation system that supports commands, including greetings, questions and instructions. With Josh, you can control smart home tech from Josh Micro, your internet browser or via the Josh app on devices like your smartphone. For example, you can turn on your speakers from your Josh Micro, change the temperature from your phone and shut off the lights from your desktop.

Josh + DISH

Starting today, Josh customers can control their TV experience for the first time from room-to-room via a new integration with DISH’s Hopper family set-top boxes – all with natural language cues. Users with Josh and DISH installed in their homes can ask Josh to navigate the DISH guide and menu, play, pause, fast-forward, rewind and select television content. Compound commands like, “Watch ESPN, turn down the volume on the TV, open shades to 30% and turn on the lights” will execute on all devices assigned in that room at the same time.

Below are examples of natural language-oriented commands you can ask Josh with DISH:

  • “Watch The Weather Channel”
  • “Channel 200”
  • “Next channel”
  • “Guide” or “DVR”

This integration is available on DISH’s Hopper (all generations), Joey (all models) and Wally set-top boxes. To learn more, check out Josh.ai’s press release.
