South by Southwest is, without question, one of the most comprehensive celebrations of culture in America. Every year, the festival offers an incredible opportunity for fans of music, technology and cinema.

If you’re lucky enough to attend this action-packed fest, setting your schedule can be overwhelming. So do yourself a favor and check out some of our favorite sights, sounds and sessions.

SXSW Interactive

This part of the festival offers some of the most interesting and innovative technologies and tangible advancements of the year. Be sure to check out 3D printing and some of the most recent developments in wearable technology.

SXSW Interactive offers you the chance to meet with professionals from a wide array of industries. Speak with creative cosplayers, digitally based doctors, inventors and many more experts.

If you’re looking for the next big thing, head over to Startup Village, where you can see the strategy behind some of tomorrow’s biggest products and services. At SXCreate, you can work on learning basic coding strategies from some of the best folks in the business.

When you inevitably work up an appetite after this exploration, trek down to SouthBites for fresh sushi and more!

SXSW Music

The musical lineup at SXSW truly offers something for everyone, regardless of which genre you prefer. If it’s indie pop you’re seeking, catching the danceable pop duets of The Ting Tings is a must. If that’s your scene, check out The Bleachers, a group that blends a classic pop anthem feel with modern sensibilities.

It wouldn’t be a festival without at least one great rock concert, and SXSW offers plenty of acts to choose from. For a family-friendly show, check out Jeff the Brotherhood. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Unlocking the Truth puts on a loud, terror-infused show.

Hip-hop is another area where the SXSW lineup doesn’t fail to impress. A high-energy performance by duo Run the Jewels is a must-see, and BJ the Chicago Kid will be taking his Midwestern talents down south for the event as well.

Whether you’re a seasoned critic of the film industry or a Netflix amateur, SXSW is the perfect place to explore your cinematic interests. Don’t miss Being Evel, a documentary from Daniel Junge that follows the life of stuntman extraordinaire Evel Knievel. If a documentary about a rock music legend sounds exciting, Danny Says is just the film for you.

SXSW Film also features talks led by experts from across the industry, such as indie film icon Mark Duplass and revered director Ava DuVernay.

If you’re trying to get your feet wet in the industry, SXSW Film offers workshops on how to write, score and produce films. There are also incredible opportunities for independent distribution.

Although you might be uncertain when planning your time at SXSW, you can be sure that you’ll stay busy throughout the fest. For more tips on SXSW, take a look at some of our other posts.
