Ole Miss tailgates: the brunch of the SEC. Now that you’re en route (we hope you’re wearing a tie or pearls), you’re going to need a conversation piece to make Southern friends. What should you bring? The most outrageous Bloody Mary of all time, of course! There are a few key Southern varieties to choose from. Check ’em out:
The Bloody Dixie
This Bloody Mary mixes in General Dixie Black Pepper Vodka instead of the normal kind, and is served alongside pickled okra. Nothing says “Southern” like pickled okra.
The Bloody Bull
This is a Bloody Mary made with beef broth. The actual Bloody Bull doesn’t technically call for vodka, but you can certainly improve the recipe by adding it.
The Bloody Derby
Possibly the most Southern version of all is the Bloody Derby, a drink that is just like a Bloody Mary, except made with bourbon. Yum.
The Bacon Bloody
A Bacon Bloody is just a standard Bloody topped with lots and lots of fresh bacon, but why stop there? You can make this with Bakon vodka and top it with bacon.
The Bloody Maria
Perhaps more of a Texas-style Southern version, the Bloody Maria is a Bloody Mary made with tequila.
There are a few toppers you can add to further distinguish your drink from the pack. Here are a few excellent ideas, if we do say so ourselves:
- Chicken and waffles
- Beef jerky
- Even more bacon
- Wasabi
- Entire cheeseburgers
- Entire pizzas
- French fries
- Grilled cheese sandwiches
- Hot dogs
- Another Bloody Mary
- String cheese
- Crab claws
- A bag of popcorn
- Nachos
- An upside-down beer
- Chicken wings
